Wow, it’s been an amazing season for the Reach Unlimited Gift Shop! We’ve made more glass than ever before, and have outsold ourselves in a truly incredible way. In fact, we have sold out of several of this year’s Christmas products, and are pretty low on just about everything we have left. Everyone at the craft shows we’ve attended is awed by the wonderful work our clients do. We’re so proud of them! Come by and visit the shop—I guarantee you’ll find something wonderful made by someone wonderful!
Holiday Open Houses
Bring your family and friends to shop at the gift shop, snack on some holiday treats, and tour the Learning Activity Center!Wednesday & Thursday, 12/7 – 12/8 from 4 pm to 7pm.
National Handwashing Awareness Week
By following the four principles of hand awareness, according to Henry the Hand, you will be in virtual isolation in spite of the sick people around you. Direct innoculation of your mucous membranes (eyes, nose or mouth) is how infectious diseases enter your body. Germs are located on dirty hands and by touching your eyes, nose or mouth you infect yourself with these germs.
"Germs are not wafting through the ventilation system in your home or classroom," Henry says. "Only you are responsible for giving (inoculating) yourself the flu or flu-like illnesses."
Join Henry the Hand as a champion handwasher following these four steps to hand awareness:
- Wash your hands when they are dirty and before eating.
- Do not cough into your hands. (Cover your mouth with your forearm.)
- Do not sneeze into your hands. (Sneeze into a tissue or, if necessary, your forearm.)
- Above all, do not put your fingers in your eyes, nose or mouth.

Chevron Houston Marathon - Support LAC Instructor Rick Hurt
Support Reach Unlimited so that the clients have a place to live in safety and dignity, to learn to be as independent as possible and to earn a paycheck. With a tough economy and cut backs at the state level, your support for Reach is more important than ever.
Rick Hurt is an art instructor for Reach Unlimited and is an official marathon fundraiser. The cost associated with providing direct care services for one individual is $5,000 a month. So, we are running to raise $20,000 which is the approximate cost for services for four people for a month.

Please Label All Outerwear
Cold weather has arrived and clients are coming with some very nice outerwear. In order to make sure each client gets home with all his or her belongings, we need to have each item labeled with the client’s name. Each year we end up with a huge pile of hats, gloves, and even jackets that go unclaimed because they have no name in them. These items are donated to Cypress Assistance Ministries. If names are in the items, we will return them to the client.

I would be happy to pick up any clients that are on the way or close by. I live in Spring, TX and I leave here around 9-10am to take my brother to Reach. I normally just take him to school and we have someone bring him back. When he is unable to pick him up, I am available to pick him up. I'm sure the driver that brings him back would be open to help out as well. Please feel free to email me with any questions or interest. CLAIREDAISY@YAHOO.COM
Hi, I'm interested in sharing rides to Reach from Cy-Creek high school when school starts in August. We could alternate weeks. My daughter in ambulatory and requires no special equipment. My vehicle is not handicap equipped. Please call Tina at 713-818-3357.
Here's What Happened This Week!
- In the homeroom class, the clients and staff began decorating their doors. Each group will chose a theme for their door and will created some wonderful holiday decorations throughout the LAC. This hands on project was a great time for the clients to work on social skills and working as a group to complete projects.
- The clients will began practicing for the upcoming Holiday Extravaganza at the LAC. Each group chose a holiday themed song and came up with a skit and performance to the song. Some of the groups selected poems to read during the extravaganza.
- The Blues Other Brothers were a success! The clients enjoyed dancing and singing to the songs that were performed! Everyone had a blast.
We Are Excited About Activities Next Week!
- In the Academics class, the clients will be able to identify each individual color in the rainbow. The clients will build knowledge in colors, to help pick clothes, work on art projects, and everyday life. The instructor will introduce the lesson by going over all the colors of the rainbow. The focus topics will be on where do you see different colors, naming the various colors, and what is your favorite color and why.
- In Social Skills class, the clients will learn to communicate with each other appropriately. The focus of the lesson is to enhance the clients social skills and working with others. The instructors will use visual aids paired with role playing exercises to teach the clients to communicate with each other.
