In January 2018, Reach Unlimited opened three new learning resources included in the expansion of the Blair Inez Scianna Learning Activity Center.
They include:
Teaching Greenhouse which will allow Reach Clients an opportunity to learn horticulture and gardening skills, work directly growing plants from seeds and seedlings and produce plants for sale which can become another revenue source for the Reach Enterprise program. Materials and supplies for the teaching greenhouse have been partially funded by a generous grant received from the Brown Foundation.
- Special Olympics Softball Field for the Reach Rockets, as well as other teams in the community. The ball-field will be lighted for evening play and stadium seating and rest room facilities are part of the package. Reach Unlimited is grateful to the United Way of Greater Houston Community Building Grant for funding the cost of equipment needed for training and active play at our new home field.
- Outdoor Learning Pavilion that will promote educational and social ventures for Reach Clients and their guests. The covered pavilion area is an inviting place for picnic lunches and many nature studies. Reach appreciates the generosity of many parents, Friends of Reach and community organizations who have provided outdoor picnic tables for our new pavilion.
This outstanding addition to our Learning Activity Center has been in progress for many months and is the result of a great collaboration with many folks including a community development block grant provided by Harris County.
Future Capital Campaign donations will target refurbishing the Blair Inez Scianna Learning Activity Center. We are eager to complete these renovations so we can continue to provide a healthy and safe learning environment for our clients now and for many years to come.
